AAN Spring Symposium: Imagining the Future of the University and Academic Work
Date: April 19, 2021
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Zoom Webinar
The Academic Advancement Network (AAN) hosts a symposium each spring on a topic of importance for higher education in general and MSU in particular.
Every university has a visible structure that identifies administrative positions by title and reporting lines and in many ways, represents authority and decision-making purview. Persons on the organizational chart certainly are ones to whom we look when in need of guidance and support but it is also not true that only these people are leaders at MSU.
Each year, the Leadership Institute series offers academic administrators the opportunity to interact with their peers around key topics. This series of 90-minute sessions are designed to expand upon themes introduced at New Administrator Orientation.
Christie M. Poitra, Ph.D. is the Interim Director of the MSU Native American Institute (NAI). Dr. Poitra is Turtle Mountain Chippewa (Pembina Ojibwa), with family ties to Little Shell.
Ryan D. Sweeder is a professor of chemistry in Lyman Briggs College and the Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology. His research is split between Chemistry Education Research (CER) and Student Success research.
Terah Venzant Chambers is a professor of K-12 educational administration and Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the MSU College of Education. Her research interests include post-Brown K-12 education policy and urban education leadership.
Dr. Rebecca Malouin is Director of the Global Health Studies programs, Interim Director of the Canadian Studies Center, Director of Research in the Institute for Global Health and Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
Started in 2017-18, the Leadership Fellows program creates partnerships between mentors (current administrators) and fellows (faculty at least 5 years post-tenure). This program involves both a shadowing experience and work on a project developed jointly between the mentor and fellow.
This series of workshops is intended for leaders (executive managers, deans, directors, chairs, and supervisors, level 12-17) from across the University to work together to improve the current climate and culture in their units and across the greater campus community.
