This symposium on later academic life was held on March 22, 2017 at the The James B. Henry Center for Executive Development. Our goals were to identify strategies to support senior and retired faculty members and administrators and utilize more effectively their experience, skills, and wisdom. The symposium reviewed the forces driving retirement on university campuses and introduced model programs and policies peer institutions have implemented. Participants considered innovative approaches MSU could employ to enhance the later academic career as a thoughtfully-planned, productive, and fulfilling stage of professional life—a stage that benefits the university community as well as the individual.
