Dr. Annick Anctil is an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University, where she leads research on Sustainable Energy Systems. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Materials Engineering, as well as a Ph.D. in Sustainability. Her research primarily focuses on evaluating the environmental impacts of photovoltaics and battery technologies. She utilizes life cycle assessment to identify critical steps in current technologies and to guide the development of greener alternatives through a combination of theoretical and experimental environmental assessments.
Dr. Anctil serves as the assistant director of the DOE-MSU Industrial Assessment Center and received an NSF CAREER award in 2021 for her work on the impact of the solar photovoltaics industry in the United States. At MSU, she teaches courses on sustainability and life cycle assessment related to energy and was honored with the Withrow Teaching Award in 2020. As part of the Lilly fellowship, she plans to explore active and scenario-based learning for sustainability education.
