Seven Mattes, received her PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Michigan State University in 2018, specializing in human-animal relationships and Japan Studies. Her applied research is aimed at improving disaster preparedness and resiliency for animals by incorporating a multispecies perspective. In both research and teaching she emphasizes the significance of valuing and critically thinking through human-animal entanglements as a means to better understand ourselves as humans.
