Assistant Director of Digital Humanities Kristen Mapes in the College of Arts and Letters has been working at MSU since the summer of 2014. Her position and interests are varied across the teaching, learning, and research spectrum. Mapes helps faculty and students conduct digital humanities projects, teach undergraduate courses in DH (including a study abroad), and train people to learn new methods for approaching their work. She also liaises between her College and MSU Libraries in the leadership of the Digital Scholarship Lab. Mapes’ research interests center around how academics engage with each other online (through digital presence, and especially focusing on Medieval Studies scholars). She is also researching and experimenting with large-scale image analysis, both in a research project on the Roman de la Rose and in the classroom with a collection of Harlem Renaissance art.
