Emilia Marcyk, 2018-19 Adams Fellow
Instructional Technology/Teaching & Learning Librarian Emilia Marcyk at Michigan State University, where she develops instructional content, leads information literacy workshops for the First Year Writing program, and supervises student reference assistants. She received her MS in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Emilia has presented and published on topics including peer-assisted learning in libraries, news literacy, and Universal Design for Learning. Recently, her interest in news literacy has led her to explore a wide range of questions in her teaching: What role does curiosity and emotion play in student learning, particularly as they gather and use information? How can we help students engage productively with uncertainty? What strategies are best to help students critically evaluate the information and experts they encounter, both in academic and non-academic contexts?
Besides her interest in big-picture information literacy topics, Emilia also maintains a variety of online learning objects for students. Some of those projects are listed on her personal page.
