Casey Henley, 2018-19 Adams Fellow
Assistant Professor and Director of Online Programs for the Neuroscience Program Casey Henley has worked with MSU her entire academic career, from undergrad through grad school and two postdocs.
Henley’s primary role is directing and teaching within our fully online Medical Neuroscience Graduate Certificate Program. The program just successfully finished its first year with 6 graduating students, and already has 24 students enrolled this semester. In addition to her administrative work, Henley teaches all levels of students from freshmen to graduate students, both in person and online. She has adopted a team-based, flipped classroom approach for instruction; her values student success in the classes and looks for innovative ideas for learning. Henley coordinates outreach programs with two other faculty members. Annually, the Neuroscience Program organizes three core events: The Brain Bee at MSU, the Neuroscience Fair, and Brain Awareness Week school visits. Finally, Henley promotes and supports accessible learning for all. Henley co-coordinates a Learning Community on accessibility and fill the role of accessibility liaison in the Neuroscience Program.
According to Henly, one of the most exciting aspects of her current position is that it includes time dedicated to helping faculty with curriculum development and improvement. She assists other instructors with online courses, technology in the classroom, and accessibility concerns.
Henley lives with her husband and our three children, two dogs, and one cat. She loves MSU sporting events, knitting, archery, hockey, and music.
