Dr. Kendra Spence Cheruvelil is dean of MSUs Lyman Briggs College (LBC) and a professor of aquatic ecology. LBC is MSU’s residential college for ~2000 undergraduates who are studying the sciences within their societal and global contexts. As a biology educator, she also builds student competencies in teamwork and advances inclusive excellence. Dr. Cheruvelil co-directs the Data-intensive Landscape Limnology Laboratory that created LAGOS – a research platform for conducting big-data research on U.S. lakes. Dr. Cheruvelil also conducts collaborative and interdisciplinary research to understand the factors that promote equity and ethics in STEM. In recognition of her contributions, Dr. Cheruvelil has received several awards, including MSUs Beal Outstanding Faculty Award and Teacher-Scholar Award. She’s also been recognized as a Research Exemplar for leading her research program with professionalism and integrity and is a Fellow of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography. Prior to joining MSU, Dr. Cheruvelil was a faculty member in the Purdue University system. She has a dual Ph.D. from MSU in Fisheries & Wildlife and Ecology, Evolution, & Behavior and grew up in central Massachusetts.
