Ryan D. Sweeder is a professor of chemistry in Lyman Briggs College and the Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology. His research is split between Chemistry Education Research (CER) and Student Success research. In his CER efforts, he explores ways to improve student learning through the use of online simulations and formative assessments and co-runs the National Science Foundation funded ChemSims project. His Student Success research focuses on understanding an improving the undergraduate STEM learning experience with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. He does research on assessing change in STEM gateway classes within the 3-Dimesional Learning for Undergraduate Science project, leads the Lyman Briggs College SPRING Scholars program, and is the MSU leader for and representative to the Sloan Equity and Inclusion in STEM Introductory Courses (SEISMIC) consortium.
Dr. Sweeder is very excited to be a participant in the AAN Leadership Fellowship program. He is thrilled about the opportunity to learn from Dean Prabu David and the other members of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences leadership team. Through this program Dr. Sweeder anticipates building his leadership skills enabling him to continue to contribute to the improvement the culture and inclusiveness of the MSU community.
