Marcie Cowley is an Assistant Professor with the Center for Integrative Studies In Social Science where she teaches courses that focus on immigration and migration (European and U.S. contexts), world urban systems, and service learning. She has also taught a variety of IAH (integrative studies in arts and humanities), SSC (social science), and history courses at MSU, and her previous work experience includes teaching history courses at Grand Valley State University as well as practicing law.
Marcie’s background is interdisciplinary with degrees in Russian and Spanish (BAs), law (JD), and history (PhD).
She has been passionate about education abroad since her experience as a year-long exchange student to The Netherlands during her senior year of high school, and was an enthusiastic participant in several programs as an undergraduate. She has been leading education abroad and domestic study away programs for the past decade. Marcie’s professional interests also include promoting student engagement and innovative teaching in large format classes, and best practices for service learning/community engagement courses taught on campus and abroad. She enjoys language study, travel, and learning about world cultures.
